Olivet Community Schools

Sarah Scott, Principal, Fern Persons Elementary

Sarah has been in a classroom, correcting papers, creating bulletin boards, and going to meetings since she was a toddler.  Her mom and stepfather are (retired) teachers, therefore, education has been an integral part of her life!

Sarah graduated from Bay City Central High School in 1994.  She continued her education at Central Michigan University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 1999.  In 2003, she earned a Master of Arts in K-12 Educational Administration from Michigan State University.

Sarah started teaching with the Bay City Public Schools Migrant Program.  She taught swimming and assisted in preschool for many years.  After earning her degree she taught a multi age language arts class.  In August of 1999, Sarah was hired to teach 3rd grade at Horizon Elementary School in Holt, Michigan.  She taught 3rd grade for nine years and 13 days.  During her time in Holt, Sarah actively pursued many leadership roles such as Intersession Director, Curriculum and School Improvement Leader, and Substitute Principal.  All of these opportunities helped in preparing Sarah for her goal of becoming a building principal.  In July of 2008, Sarah studied the craft and teaching of writing at the Columbia University (NYC) Summer Writing Project, with Lucy Calkins.

In her free time, Sarah enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, and shopping.  Sarah also believes that the key to a balanced life is exercise.  She enjoys Spinning® classes, walking, and bike riding.  This year Sarah hopes to become more active using the Wii!

Sarah is honored to be a part of Olivet Community Schools.  The staff, parents, and students in the FPE community have warmly welcomed her.  Sarah and her husband, Mike, reside in Holt with their (almost) 2-year-old son, Blair.  Mike is employed by Post Cereal, Battle Creek, so a move to the Olivet Community is in their future!
