Olivet High School, constructed in 1992, has approximately 500 students in grades 9-12. Our building is connected to the middle school and central office facilities. In the spring of 2005 we opened a new auditorium facility, connected to both the high school and middle school. It provides an outstanding forum for our award winning band, theatre and choir programs. In 2009 we added a new cafeteria, athletic facility and upgraded all of our technology assets. Olivet High School is staffed with 30 highly qualified faculty and seven support staff that are focused on working together to provide the best possible educational environment and academic curriculum for our students.
Olivet High School has continued to meet the state’s Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) standards and received a composite grade of an “A” for the 2009-10 school year; we continue to perform well on the Michigan Merit Exam (MME).
Our academic programs are comprehensive and rigorous. Using the Modified Four Block as our scheduling instrument, we provide students with the opportunity to take 32 credits while attending Olivet High School. Students are required to successfully complete four or five credits in each of the core areas: English Language Arts, mathematics, science and social studies. In addition, courses in the fine arts, foreign language, computers, physical education and health are offered. Our relatively small school has many comprehensive academic offerings, to include upper level courses such as Calculus I and II, Research and Composition, Statistics and Probability, Anatomy and Physiology, and Visual or Digital Design. In addition, approximately 25 students take advanced courses at Olivet College each semester. Students can also enroll in Michigan Virtual High School courses enabling them to take Advanced Placement (AP) classes. Olivet High School participates with the Battle Creek Math and Science Center program for the mathematically or scientifically gifted students. We also have approximately 70-75 students who attend the Calhoun Area Career Center each year for instruction in courses such as 21st Century Health, law enforcement, welding and automotive collision repair. Our high school is technologically equipped with the most current technology computer network to include approximately 400 computers. Each classroom has a media projector, document camera, sound system and DVD player to enhance instruction. Ten classrooms have permanent laptop computers available in the classroom, as well as two mobile labs to be used by the faculty on an as needed basis.
