Read To Succeed

We are committed at FPE to making sure that all kids have a successful start to their reading lives. This page serves to support parents and students with different resources and links to help make that possible.

Michigan's Third Grade Reading Law

In October of 2016, Gov. Snyder signed bill 4822 into law. This law will affect how schools document reading support here and at home, as well as how/when we communicate to parents. All students reading below grade level will receive an Individualized Reading Intervention Plan (IRIP), and all students are given a copy of FPE's Read At Home Plan. In addition, students in our current 1st grades and below must show proficiency on the reading portion of the state standardized test (MSTEP) in 3rd grade, with some approved exemptions. Raz Kids is an online reading program that we use to support students in learning how to read. It is an interactive online leveled library that motivates students to read and comprehend books. It is utilized in our K-3 classrooms, and parents also have access at home on a computer or mobile device when you download the app for free. Contact your child's teacher to obtain log in information.
