Olivet High School to Send us Back to the 80s!

By Cydney Frost, OHS Student

Told from the perspective of adult Corey Palmer (Mr. Luke Overweg) in true Wonders Years flashback style, Olivet High School pops back in time with its retro fall musical, Back to the 80s, starring Jr. Corey Palmer (Gunnar Ousley) as he navigates his radical senior year of high school. Faced with adulthood nearing, Corey wants to make his last year the best, even if that means facing the school bully, Micheal Feldman (Bryce Snow), and his overwhelming feelings for the girl next door, Tiffany Houston (Jocelyn Rolston).

Corey and his close friends -- Alf Bueller (Tyler Maples) and Kirk Keaton (Brittie Whitney) -- travel through the trials and tribulations of their senior year.  As Micheal Feldman and his goonies do their best to win over chicks’ hearts with muscles, a new student, Eileen (Arie Hubbard), finds herself in the middle of Micheal's cruel tricks. In true 80s fashion we discover crazy hair, bright colors, and, of course, lost found love. Throw in a dream lightsaber battle and many iconic songs, and you find yourself Back to the 80s!

The theatre members are delighted for the energetic throwback. This year, there are a lot of new faces making their presence know like: Avery Robb (Laura Wilde), Chris Brown (Lionel Astley) and Myah Sheldon (Stephanie). While there are new faces, there are returning members like Tayler Barnard (Cyndi Gibson), Parker Ward (Huey Jackson), Isabella Strader (Ms. Sheena Brannigan), Everett Hall (Mr. Stevie Cocker), etc. Everyone involved built the show with their ornate energy and dedication to their part.

Directing the play is Malia Koger and the assistant director, Abby Miller. The show will be held at the Olivet auditorium on November 17 & 18 at 7:00 pm and the 19 at 3:00 pm. Tickets are $10 for an adult and $8 for a senior/student and are available for purchase through Ludus at https://olivethstheatre.ludus.com/200443707.
