The Olivet School Board met on March 10 to review applicants for the superintendent position. The Board felt the candidate pool was excellent with 13 applicants and determined to interview six candidates for the position. The Board is assisted in the search process by MASB, Michigan Association of School Boards.

The interviews will be held beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday March 14 at the Middle School Library. The public is encouraged to attend the interviews. A second round of interviews is planned for March 17.

Candidates and the times they will be interviewed are as follows:

Saturday March 14

8:00 a.m., Derek Lounds, M.A., High School Principal in Eaton Rapids since 2014. Previously, he was assistant principal at Eaton Rapids for one year and also taught math and English at Eaton Rapids for five years.

9:00 a.m., Jason Lundin, M.Ed., Academic Coordinator for Lansing Schools since 2025. Previously, he was superintendent in Beal City for about one year and prior to that he was in Chippewa Hills for eight years, most recently as Director of Academics for one year, MS principal for five years, and assistant principal and athletic director for two years. He also served as a teacher in Clare for sixteen years.

10:00 a.m., Kyle Corlett, Ph.D., former superintendent in Ludington 2022-25, Previously, he was superintendent in Delton Kellogg for four years and was a principal in Three Rivers. Experience includes 8 years as a superintendent, 2 years as an elementary principal, 2 years in a dual central office/building leadership role, and 6 years as a high school English teacher.

11:00 a.m., Spencer Byrd, Ed.S., superintendent in Cheboygan since 2023. Previously, he was principal and athletic director for Cedarville and Detour. He also was a superintendent, principal, teacher and coach in Illinois.

12:30 p.m., Daniel Gilbertson, Ed.S., Interim Superintendent for Olivet since October 2025. Previously, he was Superintendent in Brandon and Croswell-Lexington. He also has been a director of education programs, principal, assistant principal and teacher in various districts.

1:30 p.m., Robert Vaught, M.A., superintendent in Detour since 2018. Previously, he was executive officer and commanding officer of Michigan Youth Challenge Academy in Battle Creek. He also has been a principal, teacher and coach in various schools.

The Board expects to appoint a new superintendent to begin approximately July 1, 2026.
